It Really Sucks!

What’s that you say?  You need to build a gulper?  What’s a gulper?  Well it sucks poop out of pit latrines and we had one built at extremely short notice…not once, but twice!  In Kampala, Uganda and in Dakar, Senegal….

‘Gulpers’ are designed to extract wet sludge from underground pits. In areas where faecal sludge has a high water content, this simple device means humans do not need to physically enter pit latrines.  It keeps them safe!
